The castle is the cradle of Lisbon. It was here that it all began. In the last decades the exodus, at times forced, of its population has taken away its central role which it should never have lost. However, this community continues to be one of the most charismatic in Lisbon, preserving its unique cultural and sociological elements in our daily lives and offering a genuine authenticity to those who visit. This project aims to maintain these elements. It is in collaboration with the community and the borough of Santa Maria Maior. Sharing the daily life and joy of some of the inhabitants of the neighbourhood we put those living beside the castle in the spotlight, reinforcing the importance they represent in guaranteeing this authenticity. The images printed on stone are accompanied by texts giving the viewer a glimpse into the story of the inhabitant.

O Castelo é o Berço da Cidade de Lisboa. Foi aqui que tudo começou. Nas últimas décadas o êxodo, muitas vezes forçado, da sua população retirou-lhe o papel central que nunca deveria ter perdido. Porém, este Bairro continua a ser um dos mais carismáticos da Cidade de Lisboa, preservando elementos Culturais e Sociológicos únicos nos nossos dias e oferecendo o verdadeiro carácter genuíno a quem o visita. Em simbiose com a sua tipicidade geográfica encontram-se as características das suas gentes, que se traduzem no Património mais relevante desta Autenticidade. Foi visando a permanência destes valores e aliando-os à arte da Fotografia que a Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior, em colaboração com a Fotógrafa Camilla Watson, promoveu o projecto "Alma do Castelo". Espelhando o quotidiano e a alegria de alguns dos habitantes do Bairro pelas Ruas e Becos que o caracterizam, as pessoas do Castelo voltam a ficar em destaque, reforçando a importância que lhes é devida na garantia desta genuinidade.
